In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing complex mechanical systems for advanced robots. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and industrial designers, to bring innovative concepts to life. Your expertise in A-Class surfacing will be crucial in creating aesthetically pleasing and functional robotic forms.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual and Detailed Design: Develop mechanical designs for robotic components and systems, including actuators, linkages, enclosures, and structural elements.

  • A-Class Surface Development: Create and refine A-Class surfaces for exterior and interior components, ensuring high aesthetic quality and manufacturability.

  • CAD Modeling and Simulation: Utilize advanced CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA) to create detailed 3D models and perform simulations (FEA, CFD) to validate designs.

  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA): Optimize designs for efficient manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the fabrication and testing of prototypes to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Technical Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, drawings, and reports.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, software engineers, and other team members to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems.

  • Research and Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing technologies.

  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design and manufacturing challenges.

  • Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials based on performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.

  • Tolerance Analysis: Perform tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure proper fit and function of mechanical assemblies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics.

    • Proven experience in developing A-Class surfaces for complex geometries.

    • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).

    • Experience with tolerance analysis.

    • Experience with FEA and CFD simulation software.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in advanced CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA).

    • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including kinematics, dynamics, and materials science.

    • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, injection molding, 3D printing).

    • Expertise in surface modeling and surfacing techniques.

    • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

    • Strong attention to detail.
